The controls are often unresponsive or require too much precision for me to fully feel comfortable or immersed in the experience. Usually, the use of on-screen controls (especially in the RPG genre) frustrates the living daylights out of me. On the surface, Cat Quest doesn't offer anything groundbreaking to the RPG genre, but it provides an incredibly entertaining and smooth experience throughout the game, much of which the game owes to its simple, yet clever use of controls.Ĭat Quest never made me yearn for a MFi controller
I would be lying if I said the punchline lands every time however, I found myself chuckling a fair amount at the absurdity of it all. The developers have clearly gone out of their way to produce not only a ton of cat puns but a healthy dose of satire into their game.
In case this still isn't enough to satisfy you, the game itself points out just how generic the villain of Cat Quest seems to be written. Lots of interesting NPCs with mysterious motives always seem to be sending you on wacky quests. Now you understand when the Skyrim-like plotline is not only forgivable but rather charming in retrospect. It was right about here in the story where I realized a pattern was emerging Cat Quest has plenty of other references, callbacks, homages, or whatever you feel like calling them to many popularly adventure and RPG games in video game history. This tiny blue cat spirit may also look familiar to gamers out there as Spirry is eerily similar to Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You're awoken on the shore by a cat spirit, aptly named Spirry, who decides to help you out. did I say that already? It is fun for all ages as I am a parent and enjoyed the humor, my munchkin like killing things as a cute character. You play as an unnamed cat, who is by all accounts minding his own business when an evil white-furred cat comes along, steals his sister, destroys his boat, and leaves the nameless cat for dead. I am planning on finishing my Mew Game run, hoping the last boss fight is better than the standard playthrough, but I really doubt that will happen. I was nowhere near 100% of a playthrough before I killed the last boss, and it still took about 6 hours to beat. The bottom line is this, get this game! It is a lot of fun and I sat and played it until I beat it. New Game+ just starts you all over again with your items and levels, Mew Game has so many extra options that will give you sweet bonuses!!! Once you take out the 4th Dragon, you will have seen the whole map, and run into the undead looking areas that have Level 99 dungeons! Ya, you won't be doing these on your first run and they are for New Game+ and Mew Game. You will gain extra abilities such as Water Walking and Flight as you progress through the story, so those islands are only unreachable until you drop the 3rd Dragon and flight comes from the 4th. Kind of like Loot Boxes from games like Overwatch or Star Wars Battlefront. You spend either 50 or 5000 gold and you will get a random item inside. 2 may become Magic Wand lv.9 with all of its stats boosted accordingly! Very handy when you are at Kit Cat's Blacksmith Shoppe and you are just buying random items. If you find another of the same weapon, it does not add it, instead it buffs the current weapon you already have. Your inventory pretty much handles all of that and there is no real need to dig into it unless you are looking for specific pieces.
